Ahoy sailors,
I wanted to share some highlights from our last weekend at the club, let everybody know about the coming election, and give a save-the-date notice about a PARTY AT COURTNEY’S HOUSE on October 15th!
Regatta Results & Work Party Thanks
Last weekend was definitely a treat. We had a great turnout for the Northern Lights Regatta, and sailors in attendance were rewarded with remarkably pleasant weather. Mother Nature provided a mix of sun and clouds, and five-ish knots of wind. We managed a single race around Saddleback, Burston, and Bird Island. Winds around the islands were tricky, and we had numerous boats trading positions over the course of the race. This was probably the largest number of racers we’ve ever had in the Northern Lights, and we’ll have results out shortly.
We finished out the day with a lovely potluck and and last evening of hanging by the camp fire. I know I’m already looking forward to next season.
On Sunday, we kicked off the work party with the “Commodore’s Breakfast”, but in truth we had so many additions from members that it was really more of an “Everybody’s Breakfast” work party morning potluck! Attendance at the work party was great, and the club is now nicely buttoned up for the winter. Thanks to all who made it out!
Elections
We’re currently scheduled to have this year’s election on October 8th, although I’m running a bit behind with my Commodore duties in getting ready. As with the last several elections, we’ll use the ElectionBuddy platform to run the election online. But we will have a short Zoom session on the 8th to take nominations nomination from the “virtual floor” as we kick things off. I’ll post more details about the process as we get closer.
This year we have three open seats on the board:
- Commodore
- Racing Vice Commodore
- Harbormaster
Per ASC by-laws, I’ve assembled a hearty group to serve on the Nominating Committee, including Shannon Wooster, Bob Chivvis, Courtney Ruckel, and Tom Harrison. More is always merrier, so if you’re interested in helping the Nominating Committee shanghai new board members, just let me know.
Also, please let me know ASAP if you’re interested in serving on the ASC board in any of the open roles. We also may have an opening for Senior Vice Commodore. Dave “Senior Vice” Verbrugge has let me know that he’s willing to step into the Commodore role if we don’t find another enthusiastic candidate. That scenario would create a midterm vacancy in the Senior Vice role.
PARTY TIME!
Courtney Ruckel as graciously offered up her family’s amazing greenhouse for a final season wrap party on Saturday, October 15th at 5:30 PM. It’s a beautiful venue, and we had a last season-end party there in 2019. Here’s some info from the website, so you can see just how special it is:

We’ll use this event to hand out trophies, recognize some outstanding volunteers, introduce the new board, and enjoy some “shore-time” with sailing friends. We’ll get out more details in the coming weeks, but I wanted to make sure that everybody put the date on their calendars. Hopefully, we’ll see y’all there!
