Ahoy sailors!
We have one final fun-and-work-filled weekend at the sailing club coming up. For Saturday, we’ll run the Northern Lights regatta, which will be the last of the season. This is a one-day event on Saturday that features a La Mans (from the dock) start and a course that uses close-by islands as marks. We’ll have a skippers meeting at 3:00 PM followed by a 4:00 PM race start.
We’re starting a little later than usual to allow several of our youth sailors time to get to the race after the Bartlett cross-country running race on Saturday. And we will only hold this race if conditions allow. With both water and air temperatures quickly dropping, we’ll error on the side of caution when it comes to sending folks out in windy conditions.
This race is traditionally fun, informal, and pretty low-key. And we’ll follow it with a potluck “warm stuff” themed potluck.
Then on Saturday, we’ll host our fall work party. This is a rain-or-shine event, and we’re really hoping to see as many members as possible. The schedule is as follows:
- 9:30 AM: For those interested, meet in the clubhouse for the annual Commodore’s Breakfast. I’ll have coffee ready, as well as plenty of fruit and pastries for hungry workers. Additional breakfast contributions are more than welcome!
- 10:00 AM: The work party will officially kick-off. And don’t worry if you can’t be there right at ten. There’s always plenty of work to do, and we’ll take the help whenever you can spare it.
- 3:00 PM: Assuming we have a decent turnout, we should have everything wrapped up by three in the afternoon. And don’t worry if you can’t stay until the end! We’ll have plenty of jobs that will only take an hour or two.
When you arrive, look for Cathy Wright. She’ll have a list of assignments, and we’ll do our best to match folks to jobs based on interest and skills. And here’s a Google Doc with a list of the tasks that we have planned for work party:

Thanks, all. It’s been a great season, and we’re excited for one more weekend of friends and sailing, plus a day of work for a great cause.
Oh, and the picture above is from the Buccaneer North American Championships (BNAC) at the Clark Lake Yacht Club in Michigan. That’s the traveling ASC crew!
